FG confirms Thomas as commissioner for insurance

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has approved the appointment of Mr Sunday Thomas as the substantive Commissioner for Insurance/Chief Executive Officer, National Insurance Commission.

The. Special Adviser, Media and Communications to the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Yunusa Abdullahi, said this in a statement on Sunday.

Recall that Thomas replaced the immediate past commissioner for Insurance/ Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Mohammed Kari, as acting commissioner for insurance of NAICOM in July 2019.

Thomas, who has over three decades of experience in the industry as an operator and regulator, was appointed deputy commissioner in charge of technical matters by Buhari in April 2017.

He was a former director-general of the Nigerian Insurers Association in 2010.

The President also approved the appointments of two board members for Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, Mrs Ya’ana Yaro as the non -executive director representing the North East, and Mrs Diana Okonta as non- executive director, to fill the slot for the South South.

The appointments takes immediate effect.
